TT1
1. How to Skim, Scan and Study
Skimming, scanning and studying are three different ways of reading. Each is used for a different purpose:
- Skimming means looking quickly through the material to see what's in it and how it is organized. In this test you skim for two purposes. First, you skim each new set of material when you first see it. Second, if you use the "main idea" answering method, you skim to find that idea. When you skim, you aren't interested in details.
- Scanning means searching quickly through the material to find particular details. In this test you scan when you use the "details" method of answering. When you scan, you aren't interested in the main idea or how the material is organized.
- Studying the material means reading it carefully. In this test, you usually study the question or instruction in "what is asked" to decide which answering method to use.
Here are some internet resources about skimming and scanning:

- Another lesson from Lingual.ly, here, also covers text materials.
