Test-Taking Skill #6:
How to Finish the Test
The best way to practice these test-taking skills is to take the GEDReady test. This test is written to be just like the real test, by the same people who write the real test. It has half the number of questions and half the time as the real test.
Passing the test is not just about answering the questions. It is about answering the questions with the clock ticking. The GEDReady test can help you practice how to keep an eye on the clock, so you can develop a sense of when to guess at a question. This is an essential test-taking skill. It's a skill you can't practice just by using individual examples of practice questions.
It is important for you to finish the test and to answer every question, even if you have to guess. To pass you have to get about 25 of the 35 questions right. But if you finish the test and guess at the questions you don't know how to answer, you only need to answer about 21. You can get the other four correct answers just by guessing.
